Which oil should I use?
I was just wondering if it really matters which oil to use, I have a 1996 Chevy C1500 4X2 5.7L V8, with 144,000 miles, it has sat and not run for a year, but I just got it back on the road and it runs great, I just changed the oil with Pennzoil 10w30 and a Microgaurd oil filter, (Checker brand) and no I will NOT put a Fram in my truck, end of discussion on Fram haha. Nut does it matter the oil and should I use a higher quality oil filter like Bosch and ACDelco on my next oil change? Thanks.
I was never a big believer on using the BEST oil filter just one that was a name brand and changing your oil on a regular basis. It all depends where you live as far as what weight of oil to use. If you live in the northern part of the U.S. then I would stay with the 10w30 because the oil would get to the engine parts faster because of the 30 weight. If you live in the middle half of the U.S. then I would switch between 10w30 in the winter and 10w40 in the summer. If you live in the lower part of the U.S. then I would stay with just 10w40 so the engine has no problem freezing and can coat the engine parts faster. The main pointy here is to CHANGE THE OIL ON A REGULAR BASIS, that is your best bet on maintaining the engine.
