The 85 transmission was weak and if your going to spend the money and time to do a motor change then change them both, this also makes the job easy because you don't have to seperate the transmission on the old one, they can have the motor and transmission ready to go in as soon as they pull the old one out, keep in mind the other things that have to be changed over to the new motor like alt, power steering pump,belts pullys and brackets it all takes time! The money part is the hard part, I would do it for free but I now live in France and all my tools now sit and rust from lack of use, I was 55.00 an hour from what the sign said on the wall but more like 35.00 because I love working on them so much I couldn't charge 55.00 for having so much fun! I was a 2 man shop and could get away with that if you take it to a dealer or large shop the price will reflect it, they have a much higher over head; So I guess try to find a shop that is small and loves the cars, as you can see from the other answers people hate them too!
