Just finished some new drywall - should I prime then paint or use the paint and primer in one?
It's brand new finished drywall - I was getting ready to prime when I heard about the Behr paint & primer in one, and wondered if it would work as well as the old 2 step.
Behr's "new" paint and primer in one is by far a long way from being a "NEW" idea. What I've done for a very long time now is to simply have Kilz or Zinnser Primer Sealer tinted to the color that I'm going to paint with. One good (and I specify "good") coat of that followed by one good coat of regular paint tinted to the same formula will save you one entire coat of paint. You don't need to spend the extra bucks for Behr's supposed NEW idea. Shyster paint contractors will charge a person for what they call "Primer plus two" meaning a primer coat followed by two coats of the color of choice. However, after charging you for three coats of paint they will instead prime with tinted primer followed by one coat of regular paint tinted the same color. Hope that answers your question.
